Strength and Stillness.

A concept a yoga teacher mentioned in a recent class I took part in.

It was a fleeting comment he made, but a theme I held throughout the practice.

It was a complete meditation.

The class was relatively basic, but it was a struggle with being sore from all the other classes I had been doing at the gym.

I had to channel the strength in my mind and the stillness in my body to get through the class. Probably slightly backward to how people usually think strength and stillness combine within us.

The more you put strength and stillness together, the more it makes sense.

How beautiful the concept is.

Stillness gives space for strength to take hold. And strength gives the podium for stillness to emanate.

Without stillness, strength is weak; without strength, stillness waivers.

To get the balance is a practice that goes beyond asana itself.

The balancing asanas are where ‘yoga’ takes place in me.

There’s nothing that exists in that moment other than the sound and sensation of my breath, in and outside of me, and the focus I’m giving.

Everything connects in those moments. Pure existence. Where strength and stillness merge in union and present the whole purpose and concept that is yoga.
